AI Content Detector for Written Documents

Identify passages that may contain patterns associated with AI-generated writing — then review the probability signal and its evidence in context before drawing conclusions.

    How it helps

A probability signal is a starting point for a conversation, not a final judgment.

Review AI-content signals alongside drafts, citations, and writing context — never as a standalone verdict.

Keep AI detection separate from plagiarism analysis so each result is interpreted correctly.

Use highlights and reports to focus a human review on the passages that need attention.

    A clear workflow

From submission to a fair reading.

    1. 01

      Submit the document

Sign in, make sure you have credits, and upload a DOC, DOCX, PDF, TXT or RTF file. One credit covers one complete check.

    2. 02

      We analyze the patterns

Models examine predictability, sentence variation and phrasing across your document for signals associated with generated writing.

    3. 03

      Inspect the signal

Review the AI-probability result with highlighted passages — longer passages carry more evidence than short ones.

    4. 04

      Decide with context

Combine the signal with drafts, citations and authorship context. A probability is a starting point for conversation, not proof.

    Inside the report

Signal plus evidence, not a black box.

Every completed check produces a report you can read, share, or download — built for revision, not just a number.

    Check your document
    • AI-probability result presented as likelihood with supporting evidence, never as proof of authorship.

    • Highlighted passages showing where the signal concentrates, so discussion starts from the text.

    • Similarity analysis in the same check, kept separate so source matches and AI patterns are never confused.

    • Optional highlight generation for a passage-level view after the initial report completes.

    • Downloadable report that documents the signal for supervisors, editors, or review panels.

    Who it serves

    Built for careful readers.

    Educators

Follow up on authorship questions with evidence in hand, and give students a fair chance to explain their process.

    Students

Self-check AI-assisted drafts before submission and make sure the final work reflects your own understanding.

    Editors & reviewers

Screen submissions for generated-text patterns as one input among many in an editorial workflow.

Bring your file as it is.

    .doc.docx.pdf.txt.rtf

Files up to 100MB. Longer passages produce more reliable signals — very short texts carry little evidence either way. Documents stay private and are automatically deleted after 30 days.

    What is AI content detection?

AI content detection is an estimate of how closely a piece of writing resembles patterns commonly produced by language models. It is not a search for a source, and it does not identify an author. The output is a probability signal based on the text itself.

That distinction matters in academic and editorial settings. A detector can point to a passage worth discussing; it cannot establish how the document was produced.

    How PlagCheckr analyzes writing

The check examines statistical and stylistic patterns across the document — for example how predictable word choices are, how sentences vary in length and structure, and how phrasing is distributed through a passage.

Because the analysis works on the document as a whole, length and consistency matter. A long, unedited passage gives the model more to work with than a few sentences. Optional highlight generation then shows where the signal concentrates, so a reviewer can read the actual text rather than only a number.

    Understanding AI detection results

Read the result as a likelihood estimate with a margin of uncertainty, not as a label attached to the writer. A high probability means the patterns resemble generated text; it does not prove that a person used an AI tool. A low probability means the patterns look more typical of human writing; it does not prove the opposite either.

The useful follow-up is always the same: read the flagged passage, compare it with drafts and citations, and ask the writer how the work was produced.

AI detection limitations and false positives

No detector has perfect accuracy, and responsible products should say so. Several conditions make results less reliable:

    • Short texts and single paragraphs provide too little evidence for a confident signal.
    • Formal, formulaic, or highly technical writing can resemble generated patterns.
    • Heavy editing removes the patterns a detector looks for, so revised AI-assisted text may read as human.
    • Writing in a second language can produce unusual phrasing that a model may interpret as a signal.
    • Different detectors can return different results on the same document.

    AI detection vs plagiarism detection

Plagiarism detection asks whether text matches existing sources. AI detection asks whether writing patterns suggest generated text. A document can contain copied material without looking AI-generated, and it can be flagged as AI-like while containing no copied source at all.

PlagCheckr runs both analyses in one check but keeps the results separate, so a source match is never confused with an AI signal.

AI detection for essays and academic writing

In education, an AI signal should support a conversation about process and authorship, not replace it. Institutions increasingly expect staff to consider drafts, version history, citations, and the student's own explanation before drawing conclusions.

For students, a self-check can be a useful prompt to review AI-assisted passages and make sure the final submission reflects genuine understanding. For educators and editors, the highlighted evidence makes that review faster and more transparent.
